Final Major Project Evaluation

I would like to say that my final major project went off without a hitch but that would be a lie. After a slow start I managed to finally get my creative block out of my head and got to work. In the end I am very happy with the way that my final major project turned out although if I was given the opportunity I would change a few things. Firstly, I would make more than one print ad because I think if I could have done a collection it would have been better. Secondly, I would add more examples of how the Instagram account would work because I think it is a bit plain. Lastly, I would like to create the full interactive advert, not just a storyboard because I think that it would tie my FMP together perfectly.

I would like to thank my tutors because they helped me out a lot with the initial start up with good suggestions and places to go to get inspiration. I feel like I was able to stick to the aims that I had set out in the beginning of my FMP with regards to keeping Mercedes-Benz' Brand Image of Sophistication and Refinement intact whilst adding a youthful twist that would attract the younger generation, so that has made me happy but like I said I wish I was able to change a few things to make it an all round better project.

Final Major Project Week 7

This week I worked on my last final outcome. I had originally planned to do an interactive advert to show in my exhibition but unfortunately this was not able to happen because our tutors did not want a laptop in the exhibition for a month. Therefore, I had to persevere and I ended up doing a storyboard for how the interactive advert would look and work. I found this quite challenging as there were a lot of elements that i had to incorporate from the contents to technical specifications and many more.

After I was able to sort out all the elements that I needed in my interactive advert, I had to look at how to keep it sophisticated and refined so as not to tarnish Mercedes' Brand Image but give it a youthful twist. After a lot of thinking and experimentation I settled on keeping it simple but adding a tribal background as it links to the both the car (symbolising that it's aggressive) and to the youth (through tattoo's and love for expression). Overall I am happy with the way that this outcome turned out, I just wish that I was able to create the full interactive advert rather than just a storyboard.

Final Major Project Week 6

This week I chose to focus on the Instagram template trials, experiments and final outcomes. I found this quite quick and easy to do because creating an Instagram page is simple as the templates and everything is already provided for you. However, the one issue that I did not think of was that there may already be a Mercedes-Benz Instagram page. I found that there was one but it just seemed to be images of their cars, no advertising or anything.

I chose to use professionally taken pictures for the image to the right because it looks so much tidier and professional, but sourcing the right images, the right text, and doing all the planning took al lot longer than I thought. All in all, I am not very happy with the way that this turned out. I think that I should have done more examples of hoe it would look, the profile page and how it would show up on the main page. However, I am happy with the ones that I have done. I believe they fit the criteria that I set at the beginning of my FMP and it would give the company an idea of what is needed to set this up as an advertising strategy.

Final Major Project Week 5

Week 5 of my Final Major Project went well, I was able to put aside my creative block and I have started to get some good progress on my design process'. I am now back on track with my action plan and by the end of week 6 I should have all of my design process' completed and then I will just have to put the finishing touches on my final outcomes. Even though everything is going well, I must not allow myself to relax otherwise I will not be able to get everything ready by the deadline. I was able to finish my trials and experiments of the first outcome which is a print advert designed to lead the viewer to the Instagram page.

(Authors Own, 2014)

I chose to create a simple black and white print ad with a simple "#AClass" as a strap-line, the reason I chose to do this is because it is simple and elegant but has a youthful twist with the link to Instagram. Although I am quite happy with the way that the print ad came out, I still think there is something not right about it. If I had the opportunity to do this again I would try and fix the LED Headlights because the lines are not quite right. However, all that being said I am still happy with how it turned out, it fits all the criteria I set for my Final Project.

Final Major Project Week 4

This week was quite an unproductive week for me with regards to my Final major Project. The reason I am saying this is becauseI was struggling with creative block, trying to come up with ideas for my project. On a better note, I did manage to do more research on my contextual referencing, I chose to focus on the creative directors of some of the top advertising companies in the United Kingdom such as Paul Brazier (AMV BBDO), Leon Jaume (WCRS) and Alexandre Gamma (BBH Global). Looking at their work has had a big impact on my work, not just the way that I look at how I develop the initial idea, but to how I show the final pieces. At the moment I am not very happy with the progress of my project because I am quite far behind on the design process. I intend to solve this by working harder and pushing myself to the limit because that is when I work best.
