Ian's Ravensbourne Blog: Fashion and Textiles Rotation Day 1

Fashion and Textiles Rotation Day 1

On the first day of our Fashion and textiles Pathway we were asked to create 5 samples, it was a very ambiguous brief but it gave us a lot of freedom. I chose to create simple but aesthetically pleasing samples because I had a feeling we were going to have to make items of clothing out of the samples.

I like how I created simple and beautiful pieces, however I think i could have made the pieces a little bit more complicated because to me it seems as though I had taken the easy way out. If I had a bit more time, I would have created more intricate and detailed pieces, but we only had half an hour to make them.

As soon as we had finished our samples we had to pick one of the 5 samples and create twenty identical versions is sizes from A4 to A2. I chose to replicate my first image because it was simple and could be used in various ways. Once we had done our replications, we were put with a partner and then worked with other peoples samples to create various outfits.

In a way it was actually enjoyable, however I would have preferred to use my own samples as I knew what I could do with them. Although, that did help me to learn to think quickly and come up with spontaneous designs. If I could do this again I would think a bit more in depth with regards to the designs so that I could create unique pieces.
